Warehouse Management System (WMS): Everything you need to know!

What is a Warehouse Management System?

A Warehouse Management System is an important part of supply chain management. With the help of a WMS you can have real-time insight in the complete warehouse storage and distributional transit of a logistical company.

A WMS system is a Warehouse Management System. In the Warehouse Management System daily warehouse processes are managed and controlled. In a wms systeem all goods and materials that enter a distribution center are tracked until they leave the distribution center.

What does a warehouse management system entail?

At Vareya we are using WMS for optimal cooperation between different parties. The warehouse management system we use is equipped with the most modern software systems in the field of stock management and has an integration for webshops. There is a standard integration with Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, Lightspeed etc. Besides standard integration with webshops there is also standard integration with selling platforms such as Amazon, BOL, Wise etc.

In our WMS you can always track your goods and stock in order to manage your stock levels, purchase (orders) and return shipments. This way you will never go out of stock with your webshop!

We use a standard integration that works with an Application Programming Interface (API) connection. This means that two different programs or systems can communicate with each other by means of software. The advantage of this API integration is that data (orders, tracking details, product information) is passed and synchronized between your webshop and our WMS.

Salesprocess within the wms system

For the warehouse management system it is important that stock levels in the warehouse management systeem are correct and by using our WMS you are able to create purchase orders for incoming stock. When a sales orders comes in the WMS makes sure that the stock then matches the quantity on the purchasing order. When the stock then corresponds to the quantity on the purchasing order, we ensure that this is properly processed in the system. In addition thanks to the API connection tracking information will be pushed back to the the web shops and external sales platforms.

Another advantage of the WMS that we use is that there is also integration with carriers (PostNL, DHL, UPS etc.) Within this API connection it is possible to choose which carrier will be used for which shipments. In certain countries, for example, certain carriers could be preferred. are very good. We can always set the best possible match in the warehouse management system.

An additional advantage of the API connection with the carriers is that certain parts of the shipping process are automated. Because when we receive an order in the WMS, a shipping label get printed instantly during the picking process and the shipment is ready to be shipped right away. The end consumer also receives a notification once the shipping label has been printed, they will immediately receive a track & trace code of the package. In addition to sending a notification to the receiver, the tracking number and the name of the carrier are also pushed back from the WMS to the webshop. In the webshop the order is put on “fulfilled” and added with tracking details and name of the carrier.
